Just over 100 miles long, the Altamaha River is formed by the confluence of the Ocmulgee and Oconee Rivers just east of Lumber City. Critical habitat is found here for bald eagles, swallow-tailed kites and red-cockaded woodpeckers. The waterway is flush with wildlife, and not the first man-made dam. Boat ramps and landings facilities are located in each county as well as a range of services from bait and tackle shops to picnic areas and marked hiking trails.

Welcome to the Ashton Country House Bed and Breakfast in Staunton, Virginia, a lovely environment welcoming to all family members to include pets (the owners have two cats and hope to have a dog shortly). This is a perfect place to soothe the spirit, share a weekend with friends, enjoy a reunion with family, celebrate a special occasion or just escape to the serenity of the countryside.

We are only 2 miles from historic downtown Staunton which boasts of some excellent restaurants and wonderful specialty shops as well as the Blackfriars Playhouse and the Woodrow Wilson Museum — so come enjoy the best of both worlds. Staunton is just 20 miles from Shenandoah National Park, and 40 miles west of Charlottesville Virginia.

Ashton Country House was built sometime between 1860 and 1869 in the Federalist Revival style but is now decorated with the Victorian Era in mind. It has an incredibly rich history which includes the occupation by Confederate troops during the War Between the States.

The Dining Room and Living Room are spacious and comfortable and beckon a guest to come in and relax. The player piano sits in the corner and invites one to experience her music. Throughout the house, books on all subject matter align shelves waiting to be read. And the wireless router allows guests to use their laptops in all rooms in case the real world should beckon.

The three porches offer an opportunity for reading, conversing or relaxing to the music that only nature can provide. The twenty-five acres of rolling land abound with incredible views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our adventurous guests are welcome to climb the path to the top of the property to see a lovely panoramic vista of Staunton and the surrounding area.
